Equations winners announced

·         TCESC held an Equations competition for approximately 250 students in grades 5-8 on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. Equations is a comprehensive mathematics game that combines problem-solving interaction with strategy, bluffing and intrigue. Congratulations to the following school districts who had teams placing in the top three spots in each age division: Fifth grade: Howland, Lakeview & Howland; Sixth Grade: Hubbard, Weathersfield, Lakeview (tie) & Lakeview (tie); Seventh & Eighth Grade: LaBrae, Lakeview & Weathersfield.

TCESC selects new Governing Board member.
TCESC's Governing Board selected Jeff Dreves to fill a vacancy on the board that was created by the resignation of Dr. James LaPolla. Dreves operates Dreves Insurance Agency in Girard.  He is a Vienna resident and a former Vienna trustee.  He is involved in many community organizations including the Trumbull County Emergency Management Board. He was selected from six candidates who expressed interest in the board.
Combatting Bullying Resources Available
U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown and TCESC worked together to coordinate a seminar for Trumbull County educators on the topic of combatting teenage bullying in your schools.  The seminar provided valuable tools and resources to assist in preventing and resolving issues of bullying and harassment at school and on the internet. Trumbull County high schools receive recognition
Seven Trumbull County High Schools were listed as the best high schools in the country by U.S. News and World Report.  Lakeview High School was a silver-medal recipient. Lakeview was ranked 1,640th nationally and 91st in Ohio.  Six other high schools were bronze medal recipients: Bloomfield, Bristol, Chalker (Southington); Girard; Lordstown; and McDonald. Register now for Summer Arts Camp

TCESC will hold its annual Summer Arts/Camp from June 25- June 29, 2012, at the YWCA in Warren. The camp is available to all students currently in grades one through four. This year, the camp will center around the theme Native American Indian and the Arts. Campers will join the TAG Summerfest parade as well as the Fine Arts Council Chalk on the Walk festivities in downtown Warren. Campers will participate in visual art, dance, music and drama activities all week. The cost of the camp is $150.  To register, click here.

Summer of Growth 2012: Digging Deeper into the Standards
TCESC's Summer of Growth workshops will focus on digging deeper into the standards as well as on college and career readiness; use of informational text; differentiation and curriculum revision.  Registration and the complete booklet listing all workshops is available here.  Registration is online only and ends May 21, 2012.
