Standards Resources
What Standards do I follow if I am not on the list above?
Notes from Rick Mangini, ODE,Office of CTAE, associate director [email protected], (614) 752-5073
-
If it is a state approved CTE program, then it would follow Career Field Technical Content Standards for the appropriate pathway.
-
There are currently no state standards for non-Career Technical business classes. HB1 mandates that they be developed. The latest time frame for completion is June 30, 2012. I anticipate having them completed prior to that date. In the meantime, we recommend following the NBEA standards or the national career cluster standards. Local decision.

Computer teachers (non-Career Tech). Depends on the focus of the class. Most “computer” teachers are either business teachers (follow NBEA or national career cluster standards) or technology education teachers (follow appropriate technology standards). Local decision. I strongly suggest review of the CTE Technical Content Standards for Information Technology that are organized around the four strands of Network Systems, Information Services and Support, Programming and Software Development and Interactive Media.

If you have a career-technical Arts and Communication classes follow the CTE content standards developed. They are organized by pathways which would equate to CTE programs. If not CTE, it would depend on the focus of the class. Could be technology standards or the Arts. This is also a local decision and should depend on the focus of the class.
-
Industrial Arts teacher should probably follow the technology standards.

Marketing is a CTE area and has Technical Content standards organized by pathway. Depends on what type of marketing program you have. If it is non-CTE marketing class, then it would be a business class. For high school classes I would strongly suggest the MBA Research be reviewed as the basis for course content.
When will the existing Technology Standards be revised?
Notes from Kimberly Mullin, ODE Associate Director of Science and Technology [email protected] 614-387-2275
The existing technology standards will not be revised at this time. The existing standards will be infused into the other content areas as their standards and model curriculum are revised and updated. Our ODE technology team is working with each content area to ensure that the standards are represented within the content and are taught through real-world application, investigation and inquiry (STEM). The team is also in the process of researching some high school technology course syllabi to assist tech teachers at the high school level. The goal would be to post some examples of technology course syllabi at the high school level that support students and prepare them in technology for career or college.
By ensuring that the technology standards are effectively represented within the other content areas, technology will be an integral part of the P-12 curricula and blended in to the classroom in a more effective manner. This also fits the goals of 21st Century skills and making sure that all students are technology literate.
