MARZANO RESOURCES
Resource: Using Technology with Classroom Instruction that Works.  Howard Pitler, Elizabeth  R. Hubbell, Matt Kuhn, and Kim Malenoski

Identifying Similarities and Differences
- Marzano, Chapter 2 "As an instructional strategy, it includes various activities that help learners see patterns and make connections".

Examples and more resources.

Word Processing Applications

  • Use the word drawing toolbar to draw diagrams, charts and templates for comparisons
  • Use the AutoShapes to draw shapes and connectors.  Insert SmartArt to add a Venn Diagram.
  • Create a table for classifying information.
Spreadsheet Software
Organizing and Brainstorming Software
  • Use Kidspiration (K-5) or Inspiration
  • Other software to use:  Powerpoint, SMARTBoard, etc
  • Students collect data and record it in a spreadsheet for comparison purposes.
Data Collection Tools
Summarizing and Notetaking  Marzano, Chapter 3 "enhancing students' ability to synthesize information and distill it into a concise new form."

Mega sites which may have other resources:

Word Processing Applications

  • Use the Track Changes feature to take a paragraph from the reading and make changes in it to summarize to make it easier to understand.
  • Use the AutoSummarize feature and let the computer summarize the article.
  • Use bullet commands to take outline notes

Organizing and Brainstorming Software

Multimedia

  • Use powerpoint for notetaking with the 2 column template so that a student may make connections between concepts.

Web Resources for taking notes collaboratively -- since these involve collaboration it will be necessary to create an account. Notetaking resources on the Online Teacher Tools webpage.

Reinforcing Effort and Providing Recognition   Marzano, Chapter 4 "giving students rewards or praise for accomplishments  related to the attainment of a goal".
