Itinerant Hard of Hearing

ITINERANT EDUCATION SERVICES FOR HARD OF HEARING

The Trumbull County Educational Service Center has a one-of-a-kind itinerant program in Northeast Ohio for educating Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing children within their district of residence. A highly qualified, licensed deaf education specialist travels throughout Trumbull and surrounding counties to provide specially designed language- based instruction for the hard-of-hearing and/or deaf student.

Program services may include:

Providing instruction for general education teachers that addresses the unique learning styles of a deaf/hard-of-hearing student.
Assisting with instructional and social implications regarding a hearing-impaired child for staff and hearing classmates.
Providing instruction to deaf/hard-of-hearing students in a variety of academic settings such as classroom inclusion or individual pull-out.
Serving as a contributing member of evaluation team report.
Responsibility for the writing and implementation of Individual Education Plan goals specific to deaf/hard-of-hearing impaired student.
Providing one-on-one instructional review following lecture/lesson/activity within the general education classroom.
Collaborating and consulting with academic teachers, American Sign Language Interpreters, speech/language pathologists, educational aides and audiologist concerning successful implementation of content standards;
Assisting with modification and/or accommodation of curriculum specific to the needs of deaf/hard-of-hearing students.
Assisting with development of social skills particular to the needs of deaf/hard-of-hearing children.
Providing instruction in American Sign Language when necessary.
Ongoing monitoring of student’s amplification equipment and frequent consultation with educational audiologist;
Providing instruction regarding deaf culture.
Providing technology to meet the needs of the deaf/hard of hearing student;
Providing advocacy skill training for students and family members.
