SCHOOL AGE DEAF EDUCATION SERVICES
Deaf Education Services Mission
Our mission is to individualize the educational needs of hard of hearing and deaf children with respect for the deaf culture and the use of both English and American Sign language.
Deaf education teachers provide specialized instruction for students in Trumbull County and surrounding areas. Our deaf education teachers provide instructional support to deaf and hard of hearing students in the general education classrooms, as well as provide intensive instruction in the deaf education small group classrooms.
The program places an emphasis on deaf culture and pride and provides access to the deaf community and resources.
Educational Audiologists provide hearing assessments and evaluations of hearing equipment. They work with our deaf education specialists to provide direct and consultative services.
Students are provided with strategies and accommodations to compensate for hearing loss in a classroom setting.
Students have access to assistive technology to assist in learning. They receive instruction in the independent management of hearing aids, FM amplification, TTY and closed caption decoders.
The curriculum is consistent with state standards. Course content is aligned with The Ohio Academic Content Standards or The Ohio Content Standards Extended.
TCESC provides related services such as speech and language therapy, audiology, physical therapy, vision therapy and occupational therapy, as needed.
Community Busing Services provides student transportation to the classroom site housed in Champion Local Schools.
High School students study American Sign Language (for course credit) to enhance their understanding of deaf culture and history and to learn about successful deaf individuals.
