Occupational therapy, physical therapy and adapted physical education services often overlap. When determining a referral, consider the student’s need, level of involvement or amount of intervention necessary. If a student’s needs are varied, referrals may be made to more than one department.
Referrals to the Trumbull County Educational Service Center’s Occupational & Physical Therapy Department can be made both informally as part of a Building Level or Intervention Assistance Team referral process or formally as part of an Evaluation Team Report. Referrals must be made by the home school district.
Completed packets should be mailed to: TCESC, 6000 Youngstown Warren Road, Niles, Ohio 44446, Attention: OT/PT Department. If the packet materials are not complete, please forward the incomplete packet.
Evaluations are scheduled as soon as possible. School district personnel are notified after the evaluation and a meeting is planned to discuss findings and any necessary intervention plans. Intervention is always planned within the least restrictive environment.
Students only receive therapy in the school if that therapy is necessary for the student to progress in the school environment.
